About us
The International Association for Peace and Democracy is dedicated to building peace at local, national, and international levels by promoting a culture of peace and transforming or preventing conflicts. We believe that fostering peace requires not just resolving conflicts but also empowering individuals and institutions to play their roles in cultivating tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding.
Our work is carried out in coordination with various community components across several critical areas. We focus on resolving and preventing conflicts through research, training, and intervention whenever necessary and feasible. We are committed to controlling the armament, possession, and misuse of small arms to ensure safer communities. Additionally, we promote transitional justice, address historical injustices, and work towards consolidating reconciliation in post-war societies.
Human rights and human security are central to our mission. We actively advocate for children's rights, working tirelessly to stop the use of children in armed conflicts. Moreover, we are dedicated to spreading the culture of non-violence, so it becomes a core human value and a conscious choice, essential for a peaceful and inclusive society.
We strive to replace retributive justice with restorative justice, focusing on healing and rebuilding communities rather than punishment alone. We also promote active citizenship and democracy, encouraging individuals and groups to know their rights and fulfill their civic duties. Indeed, our work is rooted in the belief that peace and tolerance are interconnected; they thrive where human dignity is respected, dialogue is encouraged, and justice is restorative rather than punitive.
